Cleaning & Storing Your BLADE Outboard – Short & Long-Term Guidelines

Modified on Fri, 7 Feb at 8:51 AM

Proper cleaning and storage of your BLADE Outboard will help maintain its performance, longevity, and reliability. Whether you're storing it for a few days or several months, follow these best practices.

Cleaning Your Outboard

After Every Use (Essential for Saltwater & Brackish Water)

✔️ Rinse with fresh water – Use a hose or bucket to remove salt, sand, and debris.
✔️ Wipe down surfaces – Use a damp cloth to clean any remaining residue.
✔️ Check moving parts – Ensure the throttle, steering, and propeller spin freely.
✔️ Flush cooling system (if applicable) – Follow the manual instructions.

Deep Cleaning (Every Few Weeks or After Heavy Use)

✔️ Use a mild soap and soft brush to clean dirt buildup.
✔️ Apply corrosion protection (marine-safe spray) on metal parts.
✔️ Inspect anodes, electrical connections, and seals for wear.

Short-Term Storage (1–4 Weeks)

✔️ Store upright in a dry place – Keep in a garage, shed, or storage area.
✔️ Avoid direct sunlight – UV exposure can degrade plastic and rubber parts.
✔️ Keep battery charged – Store the battery at 50–80% charge.

Long-Term Storage (Over 1 Month)

1. Keep the Original Packaging

Reusing the original foam packaging helps protect the outboard from impacts, dust, and environmental conditions.

2. Use a Canvas Carrying Case

BLADE offers a durable canvas carrying case (sold separately) for added protection.

3. Store in a Climate-Controlled Area

Avoid extreme temperatures – Freezing conditions can damage components, and excessive heat can degrade seals and electronics.

4. Battery Storage Best Practices

✔️ Charge the battery to 50–80% before storing.
Do not store batteries in freezing conditions – Keep them between 5°C and 25°C (41°F–77°F).
✔️Check charge every 3 months – Recharge if it drops below 50%.

Additional Tips for Extended Storage

Grease moving parts to prevent corrosion.
Check seals and gaskets before reusing.
Reconnect battery only when ready to use.

Following these guidelines will protect your investment and ensure your outboard is ready when you need it. ??
