Overview
The BLADE Safe Boating Program is designed to promote safety, awareness, and responsible boating practices for all users of BLADE electric outboards. Our mission is to ensure that every boater has the knowledge and tools needed to enjoy a safe and environmentally friendly experience on the water.
Key Safety Principles
1. Wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved PFD when operating your BLADE outboard. Safety should be your top priority at all times.
2. Use the Magnetic Safety Tether
The BLADE outboard is equipped with a magnetic safety tether that immediately shuts off power when disconnected. Always attach the tether to your wrist or life jacket before starting the motor.
3. Know Your Local Boating Laws
Familiarize yourself with local boating regulations, including speed limits, no-wake zones, and navigation rules. Compliance with these laws helps prevent accidents and ensures a smooth boating experience.
4. Inspect Your Equipment Before Each Use
Before heading out, conduct a pre-launch safety check:
Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely connected.
Check for any visible damage or loose connections.
Confirm the propeller is securely attached and free of debris.
Test the steering and throttle controls for proper operation.
ALWAYS READ THE OWNERS MANUAL
5. Plan Your Trip & Check Weather Conditions
Always check weather conditions before heading out. Avoid boating in severe weather, high winds, or strong currents. Inform someone of your planned route and expected return time.
6. Operate at a Safe Speed
Maintain a speed that allows you to react safely to obstacles, other boaters, and changing conditions. Be mindful of restricted areas and other vessels sharing the water.
7. Be Aware of Battery Range & Charging Needs
Know the estimated run time of your BLADE outboard and plan your trip accordingly. Keep a backup charging solution if necessary and never push the battery to its limit far from shore.
8. Respect the Environment
As an operator of an electric outboard, you are already contributing to cleaner waterways. Continue practicing responsible boating by:
Avoiding sensitive wildlife areas.
Preventing littering and disposing of waste properly.
Using designated boat ramps and docks to prevent shoreline erosion.
9. Practice Safe Docking & Anchoring
Approach docks and moorings at a controlled speed. Use fenders to avoid damage and always turn off the motor when docking or anchoring.
10. Stay Sober While Operating
Never operate your BLADE outboard under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Impaired boating is illegal and significantly increases the risk of accidents.
Commitment to Safety
BLADE is committed to providing ongoing education and resources to support safe boating. We encourage all users to participate in local boating safety courses and stay informed about best practices.
